Initial date of entry - 13th July '08
(updated 19th August)

Life long Teddyboy, Tall Paul - hard working promoter of Horsham rock 'n' roll club sadly suffered a stroke on Tuesday 8th July.
Paul is now on a gradual recovery & is able to get out & about occasionally & is starting to enjoy life again a little, which is great news.
Horsham rock 'n' roll club will continue to take place as normal each month, and is now back in the regular venue of Drill Hall, Denne Road, Horsham, West Sussex.
A whip round at the latest gig at Horsham rock 'n' roll club for Tall Paul & his wife - Sharon, was organised by well known Stall Holder there, Mr Memphis Pete. A total of '£286 plus' was raised.
Tall Paul & Sharon were unaware that this was going to happen & are extremely grateful to Memphis Pete, and to everyone who has sent cards & given support.
Crondall rock 'n' roll club wishes Paul & his family all the best right now & wishes Paul a full & speedy recovery.

Money raised for Pancreatic Cancer Research
On 29th March this year, We helped to raise funds for
The Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.
Funds raised were a result of a darts/ pool tournament organised by ‘Our Paul’s’ pool team at the Parrot Inn, Guildford.
The Parrot Inn also had a special night with Rat Pack rockin’ the pub roof off
& more money was raised with a raffle & whip round
A final sum of £443.87 was raised and donated to the worthy cause.

A personal thanks to everyone who were involved with the events, especially Angie who organised the darts/pool tournament & sold all the raffle tickets.
And thanks to all who supported us on the night & made donations,
especially to Bill & Linda from Barnstaple r 'n' r club who travelled all the way from Devon just for the occasion.

Good news & a personal message from Tongue Tied Danny

Rockin' Jan Theeee Man
is a missed man

I have to mention a major loss from a major rockin' radio show - Dell Richardson's ' Good Rockin' Tonight'. The very star of Dell's show...Rockin' Jan (PRONOUNCED YANN) theeee man had no choice but to leave his post with Dell, in May. He has moved onto other ventures that cannot be avoided.
I am sad to say, that the show will just not be the same without him...Having no Jan means great sadness at Radio Caroline.
Although, if you listen in often enough, you may be lucky to hear his 'subtle' voice either in an ad, or Jan himself could well be back on the odd occasion during his hols....You never know!
So tune in every Tuesday, 6pm- 9pm at............ www.caroline.rockers.co.uk or channel 0199 on Sky Digital.
And somewhere in Maggies Blue Suede News mag, you can read Dell's own account of his cool shows.....go on....you just gotta get yerself a copy!

Mad Rockin' radio Mayhem
Ady's got the week off work, and what did we do? What else, but guest on 2 very good rock 'n' roll radio shows!
The Radio Caroline experience
Tuesday 19th Feb, we travelled to Kent. Dell Richardson had invited us onto his show, so that we could be tortured with Rockin' Jan's (That's pronounced - Yann) bum! Yes, we spent a total of 6 hours with Dell & madman Jan (pronounced Yann, in case you forgot) & his bum!
We 1st met up in the restaurant where the torture begins. They check in with their loved ones back home, while we enter the torture chamber.......get escorted to the special torture table (by the window....we need the air)
I take a trip to
the loo & get accosted by a madman who enters ladies loos, when not wearing his
glasses. (Join the R.Caroline club, & you'll know what I mean).
After my heart
settles down, we are all gathered at the torture table & we are the only ones in
the restaurant to be waited on, as it's much too dangerous for the other
customers, for any of us to move. Jan (pronounced Yann) is sharply flicking
screwed up butter papers at poor ol' Dell....bloody good shot, he is, & that's
with his eyes shut! If we move, some poor victim might get caught in the
crossfire! My turn now, Seek target, aim, FIRE! YEEEES! I get a bullseye hitting
Jan (pronounced Yann) right on the forehead & ricocheting into his Coke! Ha, ha,
ha!! Oh, Oh, he's fishing it out.......watch out....phew! we're safe, the
waitress arrives, and threatens Jan with a straight jacket!

Meals all round, except Jan (that's pronounced Yann, in case yer didn't know). He's on soup, and bloody good too, 'cos all he did the whole time we were with him, was FART! good job, he had no veg!
We exchanged top secret stories of the past & generally had a laugh, then ventured on down to the new studio.
Oh, Cor Blimey, Jan ( pronou........oh, you should bloody know by now!) is coming in my car. Ady gives him front seat & he's poking about with my c.ds & hand cream! Just as we turn into the main road.......my car door opens. Couldn't stop laughing, soooo funny. I told Jan, I'd had enough, I want to escape and if he didn't behave in my car I would press the ejector seat button & say bye, bye!
At Radio Caroline's new studio
now, which is set up in somebody's living room, small enough to just swing a
rat! ha, ha!
All the monitoring equipment is in the kitchen situated between the pasta & daddies brown sauce!
We arrive, and the owner of the house is having a bath! STRANGE set up!

It's all great fun though. Rat Pack had sponsored tonight's show, so not only were we promoting the club, I was spending time promoting Rat Pack's newly released c.d too, amongst various other things, and Ady, spent the evening selecting tracks from his many chosen c.d's, playing lotsa old British rock 'n' roll.
Dell, played us a special dedication on the show, which he had been mentioning all evening.
Apparently, somebody made a request especially for us...how nice. The request...Tom Dooley...The singers....Bloody Pinky & Perky!
We did like Dell.....once!
The request came from a huge Pinky & Perky fan, who also loooooves the Chipmunks & has his own personal collection of Sooty & Sweep footage! HUH!
The requestee states in the request that P & P are my fave.....Well actually, they were.... until about 37 years ago! My research findings tell me that HEEE requested the track 'cos it was an excuse for him to hear it on radio! HUH!
We both had a great time. Dell & Jan theee man are such nice people to get on with, and we are grateful for the invite to 'Good Rockin' Tonight', a 2nd visit for me & 1st time for Ady.
The Forest F.m experience
Well, How can I follow that?! If you've read all the news on this page, you will know that we have been invited onto the Wednesday Night Rockin' Party a few times now.
The Forest Fm experience took place in a small unit, the day after THEE JAN experience, in a li'l ol' place called Verwood, Dorset.

We arrived, greeted by the man with the clapped out old red royal van, Steve, & his buddy - Big Dave C.- designer of South coast Rockabillies website. Dave is an extra surprise guest for the evening.
Ady's armed with his c.ds again, playing another great selection of British Rock 'n' Roll, showing off his tastes as a rockin' D.J. - Mr Dynamite Ady....1/2 of the Oh Boy! Record Hop.
It was great being on Steve's show the day after Dell's. It meant we could fit in a few more dedications, that we didn't have time for the night before.
Obviously we talked about the club, the mixture of bands that we have & generally promoting whatever we could.
Off air?....well....that's a secret! You will never know! But, I will say.... that Steve isn't as posh as ol' Dell.
After the show, we all bowled to a local chippy that Steve is familiar with.

It's a regular with him....he can often be caught in there chatting up the girl behind the counter, ha, ha!! 'There's a guy goes down the chip shop, swears he's Elvis'! Ha, ha! Noooo, that's naughty of me. Sorry Steve, just getting you back for showing off your Gene Vincent tattoo to me! ha, ha! Ooops, I slipped out with the off air secret...Ummm!

And where else better to eat these luverly chips, than down on the beach. We head on down to the scenic, sunny & sandy destination, but the weathers dark, so we didn't get to see the sun!
During our little munching venture, we came across some kind of escape tool which I fathomed, would save us from Jan, Dell's right hand man, at any given moment!

All we would have to do, would be, to wrench this large, red, circular tool out of it's box, place it over Jan's person, give him plenty of brussel sprouts (for turbo boost!), swiftly throw him out to sea & shout ''DON'T COME BACK UNTIL YOU'VE FOUND THE RADIO CAROLINE BOAT!''
SERIOUSLY......We had a fantastic time on Steve's show, & being invited to play a part on both shows was an honour.
APOLOGIES.....to Terry Wogan for turning him down at the last minute & not arriving at his studio on the Thursday.
We tried!
Neither Dell, nor Steve get payed for presenting their shows for you lot each week. In fact, any expenses incurred via the making of the shows, comes from their very own pockets....and all to entertain the likes of you.
So, as a nice gesture, we decided to donate some entry tickets to the club, to be used as a competition prize within the shows.
Both Dell & Steve allowed me to plug each others shows.....Good on 'em! They don't mind supporting each other, so get your ears onto these shows, & support them whenever you can.
The shows are there for you.......The presenters & their teams make huge effort....If YOU make little effort & E.mail them to let them know you're enjoying it. It makes such a difference.
Your support counts.
E.mail Steve
Show - Weds 8pm-10pm UK time .
E.mail Dell - Show - Tues - 6pm til 9pm
Radio Caroline can also be heard on Sky digital on Channel 0199
Thank you to everybody who e.mailed into the studios with their support whilst we were there .
DURING THE CREATION OF THIS ARTICLE WE HAVE HAD TO SAVE OURSELVES FROM JAN........
WE USED THE ESCAPE TOOL & THREW HIM OUT TO SEA!

Just to say thank you to everyone who has e.mailed, msgd on myspace & text me with lots of complimentary comments about the following article.
Remember, I didn't write it.
Reporter phoned, asked to come down, he visited the club, was bombarded with info about the club & our feelings about the music/scene.
We made it clear what rock 'n' roll is is all about.
A section of the article that follows is the result of that visit.

Crondall rock 'n' roll club featured in Guardian newspaper
Today - Wednesday 27th
February, Crondall rock 'n' roll club was featured in the

the Guardian’s G2 Arts section.
The article also featured Steve Stack O' Wax from the Wednesday night Rockin' Party Radio show & a couple of bands.

Reporter - Alexis Petridis COMMENTS.....
Hi Janie
First of all, thanks so much for the warm welcome at Crondall on Saturday. I really, really enjoyed myself.
Sorry I had to dash off.
I’m glad you thought I “got” the rockin’ scene.
I certainly think I understand how important it is to people like yourself.
I was talking to your father-in-law on the way out, and he was explaining to me how he put his hair in a quiff when he was 15 and it’s stayed the same ever since.
For someone to stick with
something – a style of music, a look, a lifestyle - that long, it’s got to be
important!
Thanks again for your help and hospitality
Take care
Alexis
IF YER DIDN'T MANAGE TO GET A COPY OF THE PAPER, THEN..........Why not........

Remembering the King of Rock 'n' Roll

Bill Haley
July 6, 1925 – February 9, 1981
27 years ago today, William John Clifton Haley, known as Bill Haley, the king of rock 'n' roll, sadly passed away.
He will always live on in our minds & in our hearts.
For if it wasn't for the likes of Bill Haley, where would we all be now?
'God Bless rock 'n' roll' , one of Bill's much later songs, says it all.
God bless Bill Haley & all the rest of the best.
We remember them all & they will always live in our hearts.
If yer rockin', y'all know what that means.

Good News for Crondall rock 'n' roll club
Within a 2 week period, Crondall rock 'n' roll club was contacted by The Classic American car magazine, a well known
magazine available on sale to the general public.
And also by the Guardian newspaper.
Classic American car magazine asked if we could send in pics of the club to put into their mag, and when discovering that Crondall rock 'n' roll club has existed in the village hall for just over 31 years, they also asked for us to send some info on the club too.
I have sent an article in, and we will just have to wait and see how much is actually going to be in the mag.
It is possible that it could be available in the March issue, but don't quote me on it.
We just have to keep our eyes & ears open.
Hopefully, I will be informed of when it will actually be available.
The Guardian newspaper called on the afternoon before our last gig with Class of '58.
The researcher wanted to do an article on the rock 'n' roll scene, came across our website & noted that we run a REAL rock 'n' roll club with some of the old school punters and real rockin' people attending.
The photographer and reporter came along the day after calling us, as arranged, did their bit & left about half way through the night.
They both enjoyed themselves and were most intrigued in the way we have spent, & still spend, our lives, rockin' away.
They learnt that Jive wasn't the only dance that goes with rock 'n' roll.......I mean....you gotta have bop, ain't yer!
It ain't rockin' if there ain't no boppin'!
The reporter stated that he just wants to portray our rockin' scene as we live it & he had learnt by the end of his evening, that rock 'n' roll is of great importance to the lives of people like ourselves, and that nothing is going to take that away from us.
The article for the Guardian Newspaper will be included in the Arts supplement, hopefully within the next few weeks
If I hear of the exact dates that these items will be available, I will inform y'all on the news section here.
Keep em' peeled, and stay rockin' y'all,
Janie.

Xmas Raffle proceeds donated to help terminally ill children
The raffle proceeds from our xmas gig with Jack Rabbit Slim & guest d.j - Robbie Knight, on 22nd December have been donated to the registered charity - 'When You Wish Upon a Star'. This is a charity which helps the dreams of terminally ill children come true, and brings that extra bit of happiness into their lives'.
The charity's aim is to grant the 'Wishes' of children suffering from life threatening illness, from the ages of 2 to 16.
Their gallery page shows a few of the 'Wishes' which they have fulfilled for some children, and brought a smile to what can sometimes be a very traumatic time, not only for the child concerned, but also for the families.

We also had a special teddy bear who played a part in the fundraising......he had forgotten his name and desperately wanted to know what it was!
We had 30 names listed to choose from, & a sealed envelope with his name in.....
His name turned out to be Huggie, and the lucky winner of the teddy was one of our very hard working helpers, Sue, pictured here with 3/4 of Jack Rabbit Slim, or is that Thee Josh in the box? What have they done to the poor man?
£84 proceeds from the raffle & £30 raised through naming the teddy totalled to £124.
We rounded that up to £150, for When you wish upon a star.

In memory of Karen Warren
Karen Warren, long time punter of Crondall rock 'n' roll club, sadly passed away in her sleep, on Sunday 9th December after fighting a long battle against Cancer, at the age of 48 years.

Karen was a member of the committee
of Crondall
rock 'n' roll club back in the late 70's together with her husband
Greg & friend Womble & co.
Karen had a claim to fame together with her friend Vicky & their bikes about 20 years ago. During the '80s, Karen, Vicky, & life with their bikes, was filmed over a period of 2 years by a camera crew, who were also interested in bikes & rock 'n' roll, for making a documentary which was aptly titled - 'My Little Sister's got a Motorbike'.
Greg was included in the filming, but the girls were the main point of interest. The documentary was based on the love & life between women & their motorbikes.
The documentary was first viewed by the public at the Rockers Reunion in Battersea, London, about 1988.
Seven weeks before Karen passed away, she tragically lost her twin sister , Kim, in a motorbike accident.
Karen, & Kim's passion for motorbikes continued to the very end, in that they both had a motorbike procession to their funerals with a sidecar used as a hearse.

Karen & Kim who have been noted for winding each other up alot, but thinking the world of each other, were together in life & are now reunited in rock 'n' roll heaven.
Our thoughts go out to Greg & the family & all their friends at this sad time.

Click here to view the plane
The plane flight will leave from Popham, which is near Basingstoke.
The lucky winner should weigh no more than approx 90 k.g./ approx 210 Ibs & have the chance to take the controls under the supervision of an experienced pilot of 8 years.
Who is the pilot?..........No other than the once, long lost promoter of Crondall rock 'n' roll club of '78/'79 for 8/10 years, who obviously, has since been found.....SUNGLASSES SAM.
All proceeds from this months
raffle will go towards Marta's daughter's fund.
Marta, 31, was a popular young Spanish lady on the rock 'n' roll scene. She was always so full of life & fun, the life & soul of any party.
Marta sadly lost her life in a
road accident on
route to the Brighton Ace Cafe Reunion on Sunday 9th September.

News of Our Paul's benefit night & raffle proceeds.
And rearrangement/change of bands for Oct & Nov.
On behalf of Crondall rock 'n' roll club, I would like to say a huge thank you to absolutely everybody who was involved with supporting our benefit night in Reading, & helped to raise money for my late brother in law's (Paul) wife & children
As a result of people pulling together, paying only £8 to have a good rockin' time & at the same time, raising money to give three young boys a boost of happiness through their hard grieving lives.
A sum of, after all pledges received, £1,258.30 has been successfully raised for Our Paul's wife, Diane & the 3 boys - Jason, Nigel & Eddie.
The money will be used to provide Paul with a decent headstone, & this has made Paul's Wife & 3 young boys especially, so happy, which is really uplifting to see.
It is with deep regret, that 'Our Paul's benefit night' had to finish before we had a chance to draw the raffle, of which, so many people had donated such lovely prizes, and we are truly grateful for that. The raffle prizes were saved for our following Crondall gig, & all who attended the benefit night, & also came to Crondall, received free raffle tickets to compensate the ones they had already bought previously.
The Rat Pack did NOT get to play AT ALL! As Johnnie Fox did not get a chance to sing either!
On behalf of Diane and all the family, we cannot thank the following people enough, for offering their services for the sole reason of supporting us....Thank you so much to....
Johnnie Fox, who helped to start the ball rolling for the event, and for the immense lengths he & his driver went to, to get to the venue.
Rat Pack, who travelled 2 & 1/2 hrs to get to Reading , & spent time learning Paul's favourite song - House of the Rising Sun, Johnny Angel style, originally to be performed with Johnny Angel.
Rat Pack kindly performed this song for my family the next time we went to see them. Thanks for that.
B.17's, (after hearing about the planned gig) for offering their services, & performing a brilliant set with the marvellous Cat Cane fronting them, who we are also grateful to.
And thanks to Johnny Angel ( even though he couldn't make it in the end).
Thanks also goes out to Steve Stack O' Wax & Dell Richardson for making the effort to help us advertise the event on their radio shows & to everyone else who helped us to advertise.
If it wasn't for these lovely people giving up THEIR time & making an effort for us, we could not have raised that money. We are forever grateful to them.
We would like to thank everybody who made an effort to come along to support us, especially Martin & Lyn from Cuxton r 'n' r club.
A special thank you goes out to those of you that helped us out on the night.
It is greatly appreciated.
Thank you to everyone for their generosity, most especially, Brian Rushgrove of Teddyboy collared, for donating 8 Velvet collar calendars to sell as part of the fundraising, Memphis Pete, Malcolm & Gwen from Reading, East End Mark & his Mum.
And of course, thanks to Pete & Sarah for having the idea of the benefit gig in the first place.
For everyone's efforts, we are truly thankful.
Sandy Ford & his
Flying Saucers now set to play Crondall in October
As Rat Pack did not get to perform, & the fact that we had a cancellation for our Oct gig, we wanted to honour them a gig. The only near date they had available, was that of our Nov night.
Sandy Ford kindly agreed to bring his date f/wd to Oct. 27th '07(originally booked for November),
so that we could book....
Rat Pack for Nov.24th '07
CLICK HERE TO SEE RAT PACK IN ACTION
Johnny Angel has also kindly agreed to coming down that night to do a couple of songs, as he would have done at the benefit night.
Thank you Sandy. Couldn't have done that without your kindness.
Sandy who couldn't make it to Our Paul's benefit night, very kindly dedicated the song
'Keep on Coming' at the Private all night party he was playing at.
Thank you Sandy.
On behalf of all the family, thank you again to everybody involved with making, what we had of our benefit night, a successful result for Diane & the boys.
rockin' regards,
Janie

Special raffle for our next gig
The proceeds from Crondall rock 'n' roll club's raffle on 29th September will go to our Paul's benefit fund, which is there for the benefit of Paul's young wife & three boys
